Because of advice from several quarters the job has morphed into me redoing the entire tub surround, and that means we're going to have to paint the bathroom when I'm done.
Nothing in the entire weary process requires advanced training. Some small amount of specialized equipment is required but--again--it's not hard to obtain and most of it should be pretty inexpensive.
I'm hoping that I can get away with doing just the damaged walls--the wall opposite the valve and showerhead is just fine--but it's not the way to bet, and in all probability while I'm taking out the damaged walls I'll end up having to do the undamaged one anyway.
Mrs. Fungus has wanted to repaint the bathroom; this may be our chance...but it either means taking down the wallpaper mural and painting that wall, or leaving it up. "Leaving it up" means not drastically changing the color of the other walls; and I don't want to do that anyway since the floor is light brown tile. That does rather restrict my choice of wall colors, and I am not going to redo the floor, but I think we could get away with an off-white color, very slightly blue or green. And the bathroom would end up looking very nice, too.
Tomorrow has to be errand day, though I'm hoping to get in a trip to Menard's and start looking at what I'm going to need to do the job. If it takes more than two or four sheets of durock for the tub surround I will find that highly surprising, but of course that stuff doesn't cost very much. The really big expense will end up being tile, if I can't save enough of the existing tile to re-set it. But obviously I have a ton of options when it comes to this; I could make the damned tub surround a mosaic of Lum if I cared to. (Though Mrs. Fungus would disapprove, and the resale value of the house would plummet. Fortunately I am not that much of an otaku that I think this is a good idea.)
Equally obviously is the fact that it's going to be a heck of a job; even though it's not going to take much brain power to accomplish it certainly will take muscle power and it's going to take time, especially since I'm going to have to learn some new motor skills in the process.

You see, this is why I didn't post anything until after 8 PM: there's nothing for me to talk about. "Nothing" being a relative term, of course, since obviously there are about a million topics upon which I could expound; but nothing has caught my interest lately.
I suppose that'll have to do, then.
