#4162: Not a good smell (Monitor woes part 2)

Whenever I turn the monitor on, it emits a burning electronics smell. That means something is going to frotz out completely one of these days, and when it does--I switch to the AOC. *sigh*

I'm still hoping to split the case sometime this "weekend" and get a gander at the internals, to see if there's anything I can fix--but it's not the way to bet, not with this kind of failure. Argh etc.

Well, it could be worse, right?

Anyway I've taken to unplugging the thing when no one's going to be home, just in case.

John C. Wright makes a suggestion I'm going to have to try. A Christian computer--I don't know if I can make it work, but we'll see.

No way. Put this dog down now. Any dog that mauls a person should be euthanized, no ifs, ands, or buts. I don't even know why this is in question; it used to be that everyone understood dogs don't get to use humans as chew toys regardless of the situation.

Regardless of why the dog attacked the kid.

The endgame of free love. See, here's the problem with free love: it spreads diseases. You'd think in the era of antibiotics that wouldn't be an issue, but bacteria develop immunity to antibiotics and VD is no exception.

Commentor Nate says something noteworthy:
The director of NYC’s Gay Men’s Health Crisis was quoted as saying,

“We’re never going to solve this epidemic until people understand how important it is for me to have a cock in my ass and another in my mouth.”

This quote should be posted every single time gay rights come up.
Indeed it should.

So Jewel has a sale on Pepsi, and I went there yesterday to stock up. 5 6-packs for $10!

...six packs of 16.9 ounce bottles, not the 24 ounce bottles. *sigh*

But at $2 per six pack, it's not a rip-off or anything. $4 buys a sixer of 24 oz bottles at regular price, or 144 oz, so for that same $4 I'm getting 202.8 oz. It's just annoying when you're at work and grabbing a bottle of pop and you think someone has played a trick on you because you know you bought 24 oz bottles.... *sigh*

Well, I'll live. First world problems, yo.

Last night I was trying to do one last Cataclysm heroic with Amaleni. She hit 88th level while I was queued, so if I dropped out of the Pick Up Group (PUG) queue I'd be stuck with Pandaria normal instances. Well, it finally popped; it was Zul'Aman and the group was pretty decent.

I don't remember the exact sequence of events but there were a couple of wipes and the healer left and we got a new one, and somewhere in there one of the DPS--a rogue--said, "this swag is gangster" and left the party. He had said earlier that "this loot is swag" and I ignored it because in gamer terms loot is swag. Apparently "swag" in this context means "lousy/crappy/shitty/worthless".

"This swag is gangster", and I cannot shake the impression that it was a 14-year old skinny-ass white kid who was saying that. I mean, he was trying just a bit too hard, gnome sane?

Anyway after losing a second healer and then the tank the group died, leaving me all alone in the instance with all the quests undone, and after a bit I reluctantly abandoned the quests and left myself. No point to trying any further when things are that far gone, and you're already beyond the level cap for PUGging the instance.

It would be nice if I could just get the f-ing quests done in the Cataclysm heroics--the ones which can only be done in heroic mode--but so far I have not managed it.

The interesting thing: the monitor is running hot in the upper right corner. It sure would be nice if I could just replace a few capacitors, as with my wife's monitor...but it's not the way to bet.

Anyway, I'm going to try disassembling it again. Wish me luck.
