#4358: As long as we have winter, we'll have polar ice caps.

These satellite images are only stunning if you haven't been paying attention.

The dire predictions of "ZOMGBBQWTF all the ice caps will melt!" make it sound as if they'll melt and never come back, which is decidedly not the case regardless because there are about four months out of every twelve where the poles get no sunlight whatsoever. It would take a decidedly warmer Earth (warmer than the most dire projections) for the ice caps to melt entirely and stay melted year-round.

These dire predictions also ignore the fact that the Arctic ice cap has melted off to a significant extent many times in recorded history, including the 1940s, and it always came back. So stick that in your pipe, Al Gore, and smoke it.

Baby boomers are getting old, which they hate. "Sure hope I die before I get old," went the song, but most of the boomers did not, and so they're all becoming decidedly elderly. "Don't trust anyone over seventy!" the old geezers wheeze from their Hoverounds.

Left work half an hour late, got home, then had a beef sandwich, potato salad, and macaroni salad. Now I think I'll go slay things in Azeroth, because that sounds like more fun than simply collapsing in the corner.

Tomorrow is another one, but at least it's an 8-hour day so I get a break somewhere in the middle of it.

Turns out that there is no actual state requirement for rest breaks except that if you're scheduled to work more than 7.5 hours in a row you must be given a half hour meal break no later than five hours after the beginning of your shift.

"Scheduled", so a day like today--where I end up working 7.5 hours--doesn't garner a meal break since I was only scheduled for 7.0. *sigh*

Anyway, that's both state law and company policy, so even when it's not hard-scheduled, you get it...as long as you're scheduled for 7.5+ hours at one go. That'll do, I suppose.
