#4370: I am no longer convinced.

A lot of people want us to believe that white teens are the largest consumers of rap music etc, but I am beginning to doubt that.

Hip-hop or gospel music?
when digging into why our season ticket base is so small, i was told it is because we can't get 35-55 white males and corporations to buy season tixs and they are the primary demo for season tickets around the league. when i pushed further, folks generally shrugged their shoulders. then i start looking around our arena during games and notice the following:

— it's 70 pct black

— the cheerleaders are black

— the music is hip hop

— at the bars it's 90 pct black

— there are few fathers and sons at the games

— we are doing after game concerts to attract more fans and the concerts are either hip hop or gospel.

My theory is that the black crowd scared away the whites and there are simply not enough affluent black fans to build a signficant season ticket base.
Take away that racist's basketball franchise immediately!

...as it turns out the NBA is making the guy sell his franchise, because raciss! But the demographic that pays all the bills is white, and you're not going to get white people to flock to a sports arena which is full of black people, for whom the show is geared. This guy is guilty only of noticing the facts and getting caught commenting on them.

We're told, time and again, that white teenagers are the biggest consumers of rap music--but I don't see that, and what I do see is that every time you give a young black person control over a radio the first thing they do is spin the dial to an "urban" radio station. The young white kid is more likely to listen to a station that plays heavy metal. (Exceptions happen, of course, but they are exceptions.)

It's almost as if the people who talk demographics are engaging in wishful thinking, or something.

Zerohedge has a primer on how empires fall.

It's almost as if the US is following a game plan, or something.

Medical testing lab pays referring doctors a kickback, but they call it "postage and handling" which makes it legal. That is to say, if they called it what it really is (a referral fee AKA a kickback) it's not legal, but by simply calling it something else suddenly it's legal. (Technically.)

It's almost as if doctors were greedy motherfuckers, or something.

Abandoning the "I am no longer convinced" stuff now:

While I was trying to write this very blog post Mrs. Fungus dragged me to bed. And afterwards, something occurred to me.

If Charlie Brown had been smart, any time he had a kite that wouldn't fly he'd threaten to feed it to the kite-eating tree. He might have to sacrifice one or two kites in front of newly-bought ones to make the point, but I'd bet he could have gotten at least one kite to fly if he'd tried this. But Charlie Brown isn't that ruthless, I guess.

Speaking of ruthless--

Something that I invariably find infuriating is that I can fall asleep in less than nine minutes if I have just hit the snooze button on the alarm clock. In no other circumstance can I be awakened by something and fall asleep again that fast; it happens only when it's the alarm clock waking me.

Today I was actually starting to dream when this happened. The dream was about people hating living near runways (it might have been something from the radio before I snoozed it) but they hated it--in my dream--because of all the black smoke that was coming from the ends of the runways. The black smoke was being generated because the black smoke was a smokescreen meant to keep terrorists from being able to shoot down airliners with shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles. This detail was a bit inchoate because it was kind-of-sort-of, at the same time, that the smoke was from all the airplanes being hit by missiles and crashing.

Really cheerful stuff, that.

On my way to work, then, I remembered this, and I realized that if airports had to generate huge columns of black smoke to protect commercial airliners from shoulder-fired SAM fire (which is itself a dubious proposition) there would not be very much commercial air travel taking place in this country. So the dream was triply unrealistic.

Well, what do I expect from something my subconscious came up with in less than nine minutes?
