#4506: Strep vs Flu--which would YOU rather have?

I vote "strep" because that can be treated with antibiotics, where the flu is just "shut up, hang on, and suffer until it's over". Both have a nonzero mortality rate, come to think of it, but I don't recall any serious strep epidemics.

Strep is what I've got, along with a $4 RX for amoxicillin and a $1 box of thin mints to help with the sore throat. Doc also gave me a shot of steroids to deal with the inflammation, but that's likely to take about a day to take effect.

99.8° temp, which is two degrees of fever for me.

When the doc first came in he said, "Might be flu!" but further examination told the tale. Heck, like I said in a prior entry I'd feel pretty good if it weren't for the sore throat. Not "well" but certainly not flu sick.

In the meantime, bed rest, fluids, a cap of amox every eight hours, and hope that things clear up soon.
