Bleah.
We ended up watching a couple of movies last night. Well--one movie, and the first seven episodes of a serial.
The movie was Robinson Crusoe on Mars, which Mrs. Fungus enjoyed more than I did, but I didn't think it was all that bad--just a bit slow in spots.
After that, I threw in the first tape of the serial: The Mysterious Doctor Satan, vintage 1940.
Movie serials are supposed to be mindless entertainment without any deep meaning or subtext. The characters are fairly one-dimensional, and their motivations are usually fairly simple. They were shot on very slim budgets. Despite their obvious technical limitations, though, they're frequently very entertaining. MDS is no exception.
I tend to prefer the SF-ish ones. MDS, Crimson Ghost, King of the Rocket Men--the ones that are driven by something technological. In the case of MDS it's Professor Scott's remote control cell; the eponymous Doctor Satan wants it so he can build an army of robots to help him amass wealth and power.
Mrs. Fungus kept saying, "One more! I need to find out what happens!" When we were done with ep 6 I figured we might as well finish the tape, which got us past ep 7 before it was done.
So now we've got eps 8-13 to watch, and I'd bet we'll watch them tonight.
I can't remember if I have any others. I could have sworn I bought The Crimson Ghost but I don't know if that's the case. Well, it's not an emergency, either way.

Okay, now it's snowing. Hurray.
