#456: It's later.

The article I linked in #355 is about the Democrat push to make cars more fuel-efficient.

What got me going was the quote from the ever-so-illustrious Senator Feinstein (D-LooneylandCalifornia). Fancy the idea that, in China, businesses toe the government line! Isn't that enviable? Isn't that marvelous? Why can't America be like that?

Oh, right. That pesky little "freedom" thing.

That's really all I had to say about it.

Speaking of cars, I did the first '86 Fiero Project work today in more than a year. I got the cradle out of the garage, took the junk off it, and painted the bottom side with Rustoleum Satin Black. The bottom side looks fantastic. Not "like new" but a hell of a lot better than it did. If I had money, I could have had it media blasted and then powdercoated, which would both look better and be a lot more durable--but I don't have money, so it's this.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. This isn't meant to be a concours show car; it's my fun "let's see how this works" project car, the one that gets all the modifications, so I can leave my '85 completely stock and all-original.

With the Escort Jalopy project last year I didn't have time to work on the Fiero; all my car-related energy went into first getting the red car usable, and then stripping the green car of usable parts. I finally got it sent off to the junkyard in freaking December, about a year after the accident which totaled it. Jesus.

Doing the other side of the cradle will probably end up waiting until I get back from the Philippines. I'm leaving July 6, which is 6 days from now. Hoody hoo!

I don't anticipate any trouble making entries here, but they'll be a bit more sporadic than usual.

I still have a good bit of shopping to do, though.

I bought some books to take on my trip--more of "The Dresden Files" books, and a couple of tankoban.

I had intended to get Here is Greenwood volume 3, and maybe a few volumes of Hana Yori Dango, but they didn't have the former and they didn't have any of the single-digit volumes of the latter.

I did pick up volumes 1 and 2 of I"s (sic) which is pretty good stuff. It wasn't until I sat down to read the first volume that I learned that the artist, Masakazu Katsura, is the guy who did Video Girl Ai.

Katsura's artwork is really good, nice and fan-servicy; and his backgrounds are incredible. When he does a full-page or partial-page splash panel featuring a background (establishing setting, or whatever) it's just gorgeous.

Having read 1 and 2, I now want the rest of them. So I may go grab them to enjoy on the airplanes....
