#6065: I love my wife, but

...when my WoW time is eaten up doing algebra I need to recall my wedding vows:
For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, and when she doesn't know how to find 'x'....
It's down there in the fine print somewhere.

*sigh*

I'm kidding. I love my wife, and I'd still be showing her how to do problems if I hadn't gotten to this point:

TRUMP IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT I HIRED HIM FOR.

Looking at new processors--

The processor in Floristica is a 4th gen Core i5, the 4570, made with the Haswell microarchitecture. Even money that the fixes for the Meltdown and Spectre exploits will cause a noticable speed reduction.

Turns out that the 6-core i5 8400 model runs about $200. Each core runs at 2.8 GHz but there are 50% more of them, so it evens out. Of course it's a different socket (LGA 1151 as opposed to Floristica's LGA 1150) which means buying a new motherboard. That would be perhaps $100-ish, depending, though I saw a rather nice ASUS mobo with dual video card slots for something like $130. So, $330, plus 16GB of RAM at some ungodly price. Probably about $400 or so to replace the mobo, and I'd have to do exactly the same thing with Mrs. Fungus' computer.

Plus side? It leaves us with two spare i5 motherboards, complete with processors and memory, that would make absolutely bitchin' TV set top boxes. I mean, a case is maybe $30 with a cheapass power supply, and 500 MB hard drives are cheap.

Brand new computers would not be less than $800 apiece, so this might be the way to go.

Well, two more days before my next day off. Whee!
