I only recall seeing Nixie tubes "in the wild", so to speak, once in my life. That was sometime in the mid-1970s when my parents took us to some theme park. I'm not even sure which one it was, though it may have been Opryland USA, because I know it was a place we only visited one time, but that doesn't seem right to me considering that place opened in 1972, which was after Nixie tubes would have been a viable choice for an electronic display.
Anyway, we had lunch, and the cash register display had a luminous display instead of the mechanical ones I was used to seeing. It was an amazing sight. I didn't get to look at it very long, but the image did stick with me.
Trying to do an image search for cash registers with Nixie displays gets me nowhere. I guess they weren't that common, which comes as no surprise to me whatsoever.

Cold morning, of course--January--and snow predicted for tonight, into tomorrow. $5 says I end up driving to work at 40 MPH tomorrow because Illinois is broke and can't afford proper snow removal. *sigh*

Well, it's Sunday, and I'm going to go lay down for a little while longer.
