And of course their flat rejection of this deal gives Trump the ability to say, "Democrats won't compromise!" That works in his favor.
And if Friday was Day 25 of the shutdown, then Wednesday is Day 30, after which all furloughed federal employees can be laid off permanently. By law.
I don't think he'll do that. The press and the Democrats would make too much hay out of him doing that, particularly if he said, "Yeah, those 800,000 people are now unemployed."
Still--I do not disapprove of the attempted compromise, and it would have sat well with me if the Democrats had been capable of real compromise and had accepted the deal. But as I said, they can't let him build a wall and expect any nonzero chance of winning the Presidency in 2020.
The fact that the American public, on balance, wants the wall built is merely a detail to them, I suppose.

I have been saying this all along. Right now, China is where Japan was in the mid-1980s. That path, however, is a trajectory--not a straight line.

Family Guy was never funny. I will admit there have been a bare handful of occasions where my wife was watching it and I've laughed at something on the show. I can count on my fingers the number of times I've heard her laugh out loud at the show, but I won't need to use my thumbs and won't get into double digits.
Incidentally, there are a few wisecracks in the comments about Vox's "IQ over boiling temperature" remark. One must remember that Vox lives in Italy, and I expect he meant "Celsius". So, read that as "IQ over 100" and leave it at that.

Wind did most of the work of clearing the driveway, and the little snowblower started on the first pull, so it's all good.
