#7031: Is it bad that I thought of exactly that phrase when I heard this story?

I read about Bloomberg's latest gaffe here first today, and had decided that I'd title the blog post "How to win friends and influence people".

Changed my mind when I saw that Ace's take on it started with the same phrase.

Anyway: Bloomberg really put his foot in it by saying that it doesn't take any intelligence to farm or to run a machine tool.

First link summarizes the situation in its last paragraph:
The Democrats just cannot break out of their smug elitist bubble. Like the nobility of yore, they have convinced themselves that they are superior humans which is why they deserve to rule over lesser men. They cannot open their mouths without letting everyone know that they are Ubermensch and should stand atop the Untermensch.
Bloomberg's gaffe exemplifies this attitude. From the latter link, here's a quote:
"I could teach anybody, even people in this room, no offense intended, to be a farmer," Bloomberg told the audience at the Distinguished Speakers Series at the University of Oxford Saïd Business School. "It's a process. You dig a hole, you put a seed in, you put dirt on top, add water, up comes the corn."
You could, eh? You don't know the first fucking thing about growing crops, you dumbass little shit. How far down do you plant the seed? How far apart do you plant them? How much fertilizer per acre do you order? Herbicide? Pesticide? How do you plow the field to insure proper drainage? When do you plant? When do you harvest? When do you spray?

Modern agriculture is a freaking science as much as it is an art. You need to know a hell of a lot to make money growing food; it certainly is not as easy as putting a seed in a hole and waiting.

He's just as disdainful over machinists. "You put the piece of metal in the lathe, you turn the crank in the direction of the arrow, and you can have a job." Oh? How fast do you turn the crank? How do you center the piece of metal? What speed do you run the lathe at?

"Out of touch" doesn't even begin to cover it.

He apparently also said that farmers are too stupid to understand high tech. And it contains a parable about what farming entails.

Why anyone would trust numbers cited by communists is beyond me. Of course the numbers are fake. I mean, come on.

Man, am I tired.
