Hooray! Mrs. Fungus and I have matching COVID-19 masks! I'm shitting myself with glee!

"...videos with empty beds and clearly fresh and bored people who had the time to create a dancing routine indicate that we are now officially in the Bullshit section of the emergency." Dancing nurse videos means THIS SHIT IS OVER SO LET'S ALL GET BACK TO FUCKING WORK ALREADY.

Are you kidding me?
It is our collective opinion that the historically high levels of morbidity and mortality from COVID-19 is due to a single factor: the widespread and inappropriate reluctance amongst intensivists to employ anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant treatments, including corticosteroid therapy early in the course of a patient's hospitalization. It is essential to recognize that it is not the virus that is killing the patient, rather it is the patient's overactive immune system. The flames of the "cytokine fire" are out of control and need to be extinguished. Providing supportive care (with ventilators that themselves stoke the fire) and waiting for the cytokine fire to burn itself out simply does not work...this approach has FAILED and has led to the death of tens of thousands of patients.
So you're saying that in the middle of a situation where a person's immune system is essentially in a runaway condition, we're not giving people drugs to slow the damned thing down?

And who suggested not using steroids? That's right! WHO--the World Health Organization--and CDC&P said "Whatever you do, don't give them something that might stop the cytokine storm!!!"

At every last damnable juncture in this fisasco, WHO has been utterly, tragically WRONG. About everything! When they're not sucking the communists' dicks and lying their asses off about how infectious and dangerous the disease is, in their utter ignorance they are giving out incorrect treatment information.

And people are dying.

And guess what?
Our treatment protocol targeting these key pathologies has achieved near uniform success, if begun within 6 hours of a COVID19 patient presenting with shortness of breath or needing ≥ 4L/min of oxygen. If such early initiation of treatment could be systematically achieved, the need for mechanical ventilators and ICU beds will decrease dramatically.
So: what we've been doing is wrong and has been killing people. These doctors have had "near uniform success" treating the disease in symptomatic patients in respiratory distress without the need for ventilators. Remdesivir (or however you spell it) has been approved by FDA for treating COVID-19, and of course there's still hydroxychloroquine.

It is time to open the country back up, damn it.

Of course the Democrat tyrants are not going to do that because they want to use this thing to get rid of Trump. They're doing the best they can to make it as bad as possible, and that includes people like the fat fuck in Springfield, Governor Pricksger.

Guess what? Pricksger's wife decided to go to their $12 million house in Florida.
"Where's the First Lady?" asked a reporter. "Is she accompanied by a state security detail? Has she engaged in non-essential travel? What is your response to people who say the stay-at-home order and non-essential travel bans aren’t abided by your family?"

To which Pritzker replied: "Well, first of all, I want to say is that in politics it used to be that we kept our families out of it," adding "My official duties have nothing to do with my family. So, I’m just not going to answer that question. It's inappropriate and I find it reprehensible, honestly that, that a reporter wrote a story about it."
No, you fat fuck, it is not inappropriate. Your wife is a citizen of Illinois.

Of course, politicians always exempt themselves from the rules they establish for everyone else.

I think it's well past time for politicians to resume being afraid of what the electorate will think when they do things like this. I want politicians quaking in their fucking shoes over the merest implication of hypocrisy, damn it. I want politicians to get into screaming fits with their advisors when they do something contrary to the politician's public stance: "I get up in front of people and tell them I'm against it, and I can't have you doing this kind of thing!"

When a public figure espouses something, and then does the exact opposite himself, he needs to be shamed for it. As in, "You might as well retire now," as in, the press forever prefixing "disgraced former" to whatever his job title is.

The real fact of the matter is that the stay-at-home order is no longer needed. We're past the need for it, and now it's just a boot stomping a human face. And that's why his wife went to Florida, and why he got up there and acted all offended by a perfectly reasonable question.

As I said, this is just a boot stomping a human face; that's all it is.

Any cop that enforces the lockdown from here on out is a pig, no ifs ands or buts. Because they are the jackbooted thugs enforcing a police state.

Is it really him? Or his body double? I cannot wish good health on a murderous communist dictator. The best I can do is not to do the opposite, and I've been doing that throughout the time that he was suspected of being dead. If that's actually him, well, good for him, I guess.

Guess the left will have to be disappointed that communist North Korea does not yet have a female leader.

Speaking of totalitarianism Canada had a mass shooting where a guy dressed up like a cop and drove a car that looked like a police car, pulled people over, and shot them. Their answer to this is to ban "assault-style" guns. No one has said what kind of gun the scumbag used, but most people would reasonably assume he used a pistol, so this is merely leftist disarmament blood-dancing. They were just waiting for the right kind of tragedy to exploit, is all.

"The Prime Minister all but admits that this will not do a damned thing to reduce the almost non existent number of mass shootings in Canada. This is being done simply for control."

This is really bad news. So many new cars, for which there are no buyers.

The manufacturers have to keep building cars. It costs a frightful amount of money not to build them, which is why the American automakers are so keen to restart the assembly lines. And they can't slow them down, either; they have to keep them running at speed, because reducing the output of the factory also costs a staggering fuckton of money.

They can't sell the surplus at anything less than regular price because then people won't buy the full-price ones. Not that anyone can really afford to do that right now, either.

I know what the left wants to get out of the crisis they've manufactured around COVID-19: they want the economy to hit the skids long enough for them to get Trump out of office; then they can go back to the "new normal" of the Obama years, where GDP growth strugged to get to 2%. The problem is, that if they are successful in triggering the really bad economic crisis they're seeking, it's going to end up being deflationary.

Even prior to this horseshit, new cars cost too much and no one could afford them; with upwards of thirty million people on unemployment that is not going to get better anytime soon, even if the stupid "stay at home" crap was rescinded tonight.

"Goodbye, Boeing".
The current downfall of Boeing is a masterclass in how not to run a company.

If anything will save Boeing, it is a return to a focus on producing quality aircraft by creating a corporate culture of quality and performance that goes all the way up to the top levels of management.

Not one that cuts tests, hides bad data, and hires people who leave rags and garbage in fuel tanks to save money.
That's about the long and the short of it.

I have absolutely no sympathy for criminals who get themselves ventilated when breaking into someone's home.

May 27 is the day two men climb into a

...and fly to ISS. Weather permitting.
Whenever it happens, Crew Dragon's flight will make history. Only eight new spacecraft carrying humans into orbit have ever launched—US Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle vehicles; Russian Vostok, Voskhod, and Soyuz vehicles; and the Chinese Shenzhou spacecraft. This is the first time one has been built and launched by a private company.
God willing, it won't be the last, but merely the first of a myriad!

For damn sure this is not how we're going to become a spacefaring species. $146 million per engine and they're not even reusable!

Do you realize that $146 million--the cost of one SLS engine, not even the whole booster!--is enough to buy five Falcon 9 launches?

"Victims of Communism Day" has quite a nice ring to it and of course the people who are trying to unionize Amazon warehouses went on strike today, which is a communist holiday.

"Amazon, Whole Foods, Target, Fedex" are companies that the communists have wanted to unionize since forever, and it angers them greatly that they have, so far, resisted all attempts at unionizing.

There's no way for the average person to grasp the enormity of horror perpetrated by marxism in its various forms. The Holocaust--the exemplar of politcal murder--killed six million people. But in the twentieth century, a hundred million people were murdered by marxist regimes.

The other socialist regimes killed sixteen times as many people as did the German National Socialist Party. Hitler bears responsibility for six million, but Mao's tally is sixty million.

The last vignette in Pixy Misa's post today is a response to a person who had issues with his Macintosh after its SSD failed.
Six lessons learned from a dead iMac. (Tidbits)

1. Target device mode is brilliant--you can boot one device off the disk drive in another over Thunderbolt.

2 through 6. If it was a PC you could just pop it open and swap the drive without going through all this agony. If swapping the disk drive in your computer makes the screen fall off--and you're thinking of buying another one just the same--then you have a problem.
In order to replace the SSD in a 27" all-in-one Mac, you have to cut the screen off. The screen is held onto the thing with adhesive. Not screws, adhesive--because after all no one ever needs to fix an Apple computer, right?

Of course you can pay Apple to fix the thing for you...or, at least, you could, if there wasn't a big (manufactured!) pandemic crisis. And I'm sure it wouldn't be much more than four or five hundred dollars in labor.

Nice day today, temps in the sixties, no rain. Back yard is a swamp. I'm going to cut the front with the pusher tomorrow, I think.

After that I want to try to get a couple of minor Jeep tasks done, damn it. The thing hasn't missed a beat since I swapped the IAC valve, and the fuel economy has improved. ("Poor fuel economy" is a symptom of every last issue I chased trying to fix the low idle/stumble.)

Still thinking about buying a new stereo for it. One Pioneer head unit on Amazon is $70, with a USB socket and an AUX input, but without Bluetooth. One with Bluetooth and the other features, $90, which also lets you use your phone hands-free. Still not a bad price.

Well, we'll see. Certainly, if I do "massage the old crate" this summer and fix what needs fixing, I'll definitely put in a new stereo.

But! It's Friday night, and I'm happy to be home and relaxing, finally.
