#7547: Madonna, well past prime

Can you believe that Madonna has the balls to claim that she is oppressed by the patriarchy? I don't believe that I need to explain how utterly unreal her claim is.

The problem is, entertainers should not be treated as if they are important. Unfortunately, they are.

I don't know why anyone who has even studied history to the slight extent I have would be shocked and surprised that a communist nation treated children this way. Communism is evil, and its fruits are evil. With its 20th century's butcher's bill somewhere near 100 million murders, I don't think I need to support that assertion.

I'm only commenting on this because everyone's asks "what if this had happened over the ocean?"

The 777 has been tested and engineered specifically to handle extended engine-out operations on long flights. It's something Boeing had to pass in an era when the FAA actually regulated the manufacturers. I agree that it's worrisome to have an obviously unbalanced, flaming engine rattling around on its nacelle, but that engine had done the damage it was going to do, and I suspect that even if it had fallen off the plane it would not have caused further trouble.

Jet engines explode, sometimes. *shrug*

Yes if I were aboard that plane I'd be shitting bricks. Just about anyone would. That's not the point; the point is, we've designed aircraft to survive engine problems that don't immediately cause a crash. If the plane had been over the ocean, it would have made it safely to a landing field.

Dinner tonight was roast beef, salad, asparagus, scalloped potatoes au gratin, and crescent rolls. I went into the kitchen, got dinner in the oven, washed the dishes, put the rolls in, cooked the asparagus--everything done at the same temp at the same time.

Beef came out a hair underdone, but it was still delicious.

The window in the family room appears to have stopped leaking, but I'm going to give it another day to be sure.

Ended up being up until nearly 4 AM since I slept a lot yesterday. Woke up for a while at 7, and again at 9, and then I was awake until mid-afternoon; then returned to bed and slept a couple more hours. "Broken sleep". *sigh*

Still, it's been a quiet and reasonably restful weekend, so I can't really complain.
