2+2 (and now I hurt everywhere)

Well, the Escort rebuild project has lurched forward: I picked up a parts car today.

I mentioned the car in yesterday's entry. It's a 1995 Escort LX with the sport appearance package, same as my first '95. This one is a color-changing red color rather than deep forest green.

This means I now have two Escorts and two Fieros.

I rented a tow dolly from U-haul and drove up to Cicero to get the thing. After a quick inspection--which satisfied me that the car was worth the asking price--I bought the thing. Then I had a bad hour getting it onto the tow dolly.

It doesn't start (needs starter and battery) so I couldn't drive it on; I had to winch it on with a come-along. That takes time; and it was in a sun-baked alley through which few breezes blew. By the time the car was secured to the dolly, I was soaked with sweat.

I had to stop at a gas station to pump up the rear tires, which were very low on air; but then I dragged the car all the way home without incident. Now it sits in the driveway next to the other one, and the tow dolly has been returned to the U-haul place. If I'm right it should cost me around $50 for the one-day rental fee.

From a boneyard, the parts I will be taking from the car would easily cost $500, if not more, excluding the air bags (which this car has, intact). The body of the car is in very good shape, too, so I'm optimistic that I'll be able to do whatever needs doing and have an operable Escort once again.

I was meaning to get pictures, but my Dad was antsy about getting the car off the dolly, so I didn't have a chance to get any digital ones. I'll pull the cover off the green Escort tomorrow and get a side-by-side pic of the two cars.

Overall I have to rate today as a "plus" overall. $400 for a complete parts car with air bags, and $50 to rent the trailer to drag it home. You have to love that.

...and I just had a severe moment of "deja vu" for some reason... ¬_¬ But I had a lot of that today. It seemed like I drove over the Cal-Sag channel three times, for one thing....
