#2130: Drilling ban overturned!

Judge blocked Obama's ban.

Obama's six-month ban was opportunistic: Democrats oppose all exploitation of our fossil fuel deposits, and Obama campaigned on making fossil fuel use more expensive. The Deepwater Horizon disaster played right into his hands, giving him an excuse to do what he wanted to do anyway, but which was very unpopular with the American people.

Obama's moratorium was costing people their jobs, so part of Obama's big shakedown of BP was to make BP pay the unemployment for all the oil workers who were put out of jobs by Obama's decision to stop all drilling in the Gulf.

"White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the president believes strongly that drilling at such depths does not make sense and puts the safety of workers 'at a danger that the president does not believe we can afford.'" Maybe, Mr. Gibbs--just maybe--if your boss' appointees hadn't given BP all kinds of waivers and lessened regulatory oversight on them, maybe the workers on that platform would still be alive. Of course then BP probably wouldn't have donated as much money to Obama's campaign coffers, right?

If Obama thinks "drilling at such depths does not make sense" then will he let them drill in shallower water? I bet he won't. Obama thinks we shouldn't drill at all; his plan to "open" the licensing process for oil platforms--floated long before this happened--was a thinly-disguised way to slow down the licensing process.

So there will be an appeal, and at some level or other you can bet Obama will get his way--leaving those people in the Gulf without jobs.

For the time being, though, Big Dick's sentiments are highly similar to mine.

Michelle Malkin on this startling outbreak of sanity.

Here's an article about the lawsuit written before the decision came down.

McCain claims he was never for amnesty for illegals. Technically, the "immigration reform" bill he championed wasn't "amnesty" per se, but come on, everyone knew that was the aim of the damn bill.

Meanwhile, the Obama administration is refusing to do anything about securing the border until and unless the GOP signs on to the Democrats' latest attempt at amnesty.

Which they are still calling "comprehensive immigration reform". It's not "reform"; it's just amnesty and empty rhetoric. We don't need "reform"; we need to close the damn border to illegal aliens.

The ENT managed to remove the plug of wax from my ear. It wasn't big--about the size of a pencil eraser--but he said it was virtually right up against the eardrum. Shooting water into my ear didn't move it, so he went in with tweezers, which hurt. He stopped, offering me a choice: use some drops to soften it for a week and come back, or else deal with the pain and let him dig it out.

I told him to go ahead and get it out, so he went after it with tweezers again, and OW OW OH GOD OW WTF, but that had dislodged the plug enough that he hosed out my ear with water again and got the wax out.

My ear doesn't feel a lot better, mainly because of the inflammation which is still present, but it doesn't hurt any more. He gave me an RX for some ear drops, but the drug store had to order them, so I'm going to be picking them up later this evening. And I'm to see him again on the 2nd of July.

When I see him again I'm going to ask him if the left ear needs cleaning, and if so, to clean it.

He advised me to have my ears cleaned out every year. I think I'll have to; I've had this problem with earwax all my life. When I was 12 I spent two weeks off from school with a severe earache, and the first thing the docs did was to clean the wax out of my ears.

It's not that I don't clean my ears; I do. I wash them with soap and water, I let the shower run into my ears, and I keep them clean and dry otherwise. But I'm not going to jam Q-tips into my ears to wipe down my eardrums, because that hurts and you risk doing damage to your hearing.

The problem is that my ear canals just produce too much goo. The doctor said the over-the-counter ear drops don't work--which confirms my experience--so that's out. *sigh*

Hot day today, hot day tomorrow. I might hit the bookstore while Mom's at the doctor's office, because that way I can stay cool and maybe even pick up something new to read. I'm working on Wolf and Spice 2 now. (It is, by the way, Wolf and Spice and not the other way around. The Japanese title is Ookami to Koushinryo, which translates to Wolf and Spice.)

I also finally got my damn hair cut. I last got it done in November, for crying out loud.

I went to pay for it, getting out my SuperCuts card, and saw--hey!--that I had filled it the last time I got my hair cut, so I got today's haircut for free. Nice surprise, that; but naturally I still tipped the stylist.

So I started a new card today. Maybe I'll fill this one up in a little less than FOUR YEARS.
