#2511: It's the sun, stupid.

Alan Caruba takes a bit to get to the point, but he makes it.

Greenland's glaciers are growing, not shrinking, but it's still because of "global warming". Check this out: "...researchers found hotter summers may actually slow down the flow of glaciers."

Guys...you're really reaching now.

Social Security is already broke. Just bear that in mind.

Obama is "intellectually dishonest". No, really?
We foreigners, we just laugh at someone like Mr. Obama. I was very critical of Mr. Bush, but at least he had one line and he stuck to that line, and at least he set out to do a thing and he was relatively straight on that thing that he did. He may have been wrong and I criticized him very frequently, but at least he didn’t change his mind continuously, and didn’t prostitute himself.
Yeah.

The soi disant anarchist losers at 4chan may have to talk to the FBI. Look: you may be a 1337 h4><0r and hide "behind seven proxies!" but if the government is sufficiently motivated, it can find you. They have the budget to waste money drilling past your "seven proxies", because ultimately the stuff you up- and download has to go to an IP address.

There is no such thing as true anonymity on the Internet.

Even when a car drives through a house thus exposing illegal pot plants to cops without them needing a search warrant, it takes them two months to arrest the guy.

Any wonder "the war on drugs" is a failure?

Well, we ended up getting about twice as much global warming as we were supposed to.

The forecast had said "one inch" and we got at least two. I blew the driveway off this morning, and the snowblower was actually scooping up some of the previous deposit, despite the thin layer of ice on it. Then I spread salt; with the bright sun and near-freezing temperatures I figure the driveway ought to be close to totally clear by nightfall.

For a while I wasn't seeing the outdoor cat, but I saw him today; and in fact I saw his older stepbrother last night. Brother is a less-frequent visitor than the other cat (Mom called him "Twosie" and I call him "Scooter") but every once in a while he shows up for some food. He's a lot less skittish than the other cat; he knows what's going on and only walks away as a matter of custom: "I'm going over here, because I don't want you to get the idea you can pet me or anything."

I feed the outdoor cats because they keep the rodentia in check; and with two show cars in the garage I don't want any more rodents around than there have to be. Also, I'm a big softie.

Challenger was already 25 years ago. A scant couple of days after the Bears won the Super Bowl, Challenger blew up.

When I was cleaning out my briefcase for the job interview, I came across the Cedar Rapids Gazette from Sunday, Feb 2, 2003, headlined with the story about the Colombia breaking up on reentry.

The first shuttle disaster already killed more people than the Apollo program ever did. Bad enough that it was eminently avoidable; but the Colombia disaster was just stupid, because the switch from CFC-bearing insulation to non-CFC-bearing foam is the proximate cause of the Colombia disaster. The non-CFC foam was harder than the other kind; when a hunk of it fell off the external tank and hit the shuttle, it caused more damage than the stuff made with CFCs.

Human safety should always trump environmental correctness.

Apparently Sailor V is addicted to WoW.

I've been astounded to see that he's been on WoW every time I've logged on over the past several days, and he's already reached a high enough level to start questing in Stranglethorn Vale.

My revenge for my anime addiction is complete. I can take that off my bucket list.
