#3770: As you probably guessed, Mrs. Fungus had a few days off.

...which is why I haven't been posting. Too busy spending time with my wife. Heh.

Brief primer on nuclear fusion, posted here for future reference.

Ace wonders how you can make a star blow up. Interesting idea, and worthy of further discussion--just not now.

French communists work 3 hours out of an 8 hour shift. Then the French wonder why they have no domestic tire factories.

* * *

Yes, they do want to be able to go door to door confiscating firearms.

Furthermore, the government expects to have to shoot at, shall we say, "non-traditional" targets such as pregnant women and toddlers, so they're buying lots of paper targets which will ensure their shooters are de-sensitized to doing same.

But of course something like Nazi Germany Cannot Happen Here In The United States. (Even though it already has once.)

Obamacare, as planned, is forcing health insurance rates to skyrocket. It was built to do exactly this, in order to break the health insurance industry in the USA. Once that's done, the government can take over and we get single-payer socialized medicine a la England. Whee!

Now that Obama is securely in power for at least four more years, gas prices have been allowed to rise. So now we're paying half a dollar more for 87 octane than we were last year.

Gas is now $4.10 here in the Fungal Vale. I do expect $5 per gallon later this year, as I predicted last year. I was confident that gasoline would not be allowed to rise to a new high during an election year with a Democrat incumbent in the White House, and I was right; but there need be no such brake on prices now.

Meanwhile the corruptocrats at EPA are trying to hide their policy discussions by illegally using private e-mail accounts to conduct official business. This allows the promised "most transparent administration in history" to keep their discussions out of the public record and safely insulated from FOIA requests.

What's Obama doing with North Korea? "Senior administration officials" and "equipment" have been taken to NK, secretly.

But no one cares because it's a Democrat administration.

End stage of the blue model has the city of Detroit scrambling to find enough money to keep the lights on, and failing.

Last year they were able to borrow enough money to pay their bills--but if you have to borrow money to pay for essentials you are already broke.

If you are against genetically modified crops, you are for the needless deaths of poor people in third world countries.

I thought there was something wrong with that strip the other day. Snoopy's Sopwith Camel got shot up in the original strip, but communists Photoshopped the bullet holes out of the thing when it was reprinted the other day.

Revisionist morons.

The reeducation camps of totalitarianist America will include courses on multicultural sensitivity.

Indeed they will.

...ending up giving short shrift to this post--started Wednesday--due to lack of sleep. I was too tired to work on it yesterday; today I woke up at 5 AM and have been up since, and I'm dreadfully tired.

We're looking at a winter storm warning for tonight. "3-5 inches", they say. I'll believe it when I see it; fortunately the snowblower got started a couple of weeks ago and I have fresh fuel for it, so I can blow down the driveway when-and-if.

I've found myself hooked on a show on the Velocity channel called Wheeler Dealers. The conceit of the show is that a guy named Mike buys a car, then turns it over to his buddy Edd to fix whatever deficits it has; then it gets sold, "hopefully at a profit".

Mrs. Fungus identified the problem with the conceit right away: they don't take labor hours into account, only the cost of the car and parts (and subcontracted services like paint or whatever). When they make a few hundred British pounds' profit on the car, where does the labor cost get figured? (Also the cost of maintaining the shop where Edd does his work?) It's something I didn't consider until I had a couple of eps under my belt, but she got it right away.

But of course these guys aren't really in the business of buying, fixing, and selling cars; their business is making a television show. Considering what it costs to make an episode of a TV show, the cost of the cars they buy is incidental.

Still, it's a harmless show and kind of interesting. I wouldn't pay $75 a month (or whatever cable costs these days) to see it, but it's entertaining.

Well, hopefully that'll do for a little while.

#3771: Stupid stuff

How is that not racist?

Look: if your social security check is going to be direct-deposit, it means you have to have a bank account. Thanks to the Patriot Act, you need a government issued photo ID to open a bank account.

We are told that requiring people to have photo IDs in order to vote is racist for a variety of reasons, yet requiring people to have photo IDs in order to receive government benefits is not.

Then again, this is government; who says it has to make sense or be anything approximating consistent?

McCain is butthurt that the press stopped loving him. I'm with Ace on this one: how does someone smart enough to become and stay a US Senator not understand why the press loves him so much?

Maybe it's just because people often can't see the stupidity that's closest to them. It's why battered women usually insist on giving their abusive husbands "just one more chance" even while everyone else in their lives are screaming in frustration "GET AWAY FROM HIM!!!"

The press' love for McCain was always predicated on the way he loved to bash other Republicans--nothing more, nothing less. The real tragedy is that I think McCain himself was shocked that the 2008 campaign went the way it did, considering that he did everything the way the press said they liked things to be done by the Republican in the race.

McCain ran a foolish and inept campaign for President based entirely on hoping that the national news media liked him enough to continue to be nice to him the way they were when he's doing his "off the record" rants about the mean and nasty Republicans.

Instead, the press was (and is) like a man using a woman for his own satisfaction: "Yeah, baby, I know I said I wouldn't bust one in your mouth. My bad. Now, quit bitching and go get me a beer." McCain is now having to grab the Listerine and doesn't appear to understand why.

From here on out it's NON stupid stuff. Just so you know.

Remember that Steven Den Beste helped design the modern cellular telephone when you read this post.

It takes quite a bit of brain power to consider four-dimensional objects when you can only directly perceive a 3D cross section of them. Whenever I try, I get a headache.

Today marks the first time in...quite a long while that I even picked up my MP3 player. I just don't listen to music much right now; when Mrs. Fungus is not home I have the phone nearby in case she calls, and when she is home I want to be able to hear her.

But right now she's at work, and will not be leaving for 1.5 hours, so I believe I can safely listen to a few tunes. Whee!

According to the radar, it should just be starting to snow here. I don't see snow falling outside my window, though. Oh well.
