#4895: Ahh, headache.

Today is the first time in three weeks that I've been able to sleep in, where neither I nor my wife had to get up to go to work. Naturally I woke up at 5 AM with a slight headache, which I was able to dispatch with a little bit of food; but after going back to bed around 6, and falling asleep easily, I have awakened at 10 AM with a much worse headache.

Well, I did sleep an extra (counts on fingers) five hours. That's after I went to bed no later than about nine o'clock last night, I might add.

Well, three ibuprofen, a ham and cheese sandwich, and a bottle of Pepsi ought to take care of the headache.

At 10:30 AM, so far, it's actually "MUCH COOLER" today than it was yesterday. As long as this trend continues, we should be okay. Of course, there are thunderstorms brewing up, and the bunker appears to be right under where they're doing that (according to the last half hour's radar) so we'll see how we do today.

I went to check on the pepper plant yesterday and was going to water it, but then saw that the reservoir underneath the planter was still full, and furthermore the pepper plant's roots descend into it.

I'm reusing the planter Mom got in 2010 specifically for this purpose. It's been knocking around the patio since then and a variety of plants have grown in it, so I had to weed it; but now there are no weeds and the pepper plant is doing fine.

It consists of a trough of water, atop which the planter sits; the planter is about a foot deep and is (naturally) full of soil. Keep the trough full and the plants will have plenty of water. It's kind of like a step back from pure hydroponic.

A late start and a cool summer, though, are conspiring to prevent a bountiful harvest. Since I have expended about $3 and some effort, though, I think it'll be okay if I only get a few peppers from the thing.

Here's a good essay on the politics of the Star Trek universe and how they have devolved since the 1960s. It's a bit of a read, but worthwhile.

Ahh, sweet blissful 3-day weekend...after which I only get normal weekends FOREVER!!! or at least until I can take a vacation day or two.

But WTF, I'm used to that, having come from retail.
