#7185: Herein lies the problem.

Another black man resists arrest and dies in the process.

Let me say this first, because I want it to be clear where I stand on this: if you don't want to die, if you don't want to be injured, if you don't want to be tackled and hollered at and have weapons pointed at you, DO NOT RESIST ARREST. This is a pretty simple rule; I don't think it's too complex or arcane for even relative simpletons to comprehend.

If an officer tells you, "I'm placing you under arrest," comply.

There are many good reasons for doing so, besides the almost immediate benefits to life and health which will redound to you. You see, there are a lot of police out there and not all of them are where you are. Let's say you get away from this particular squad; they have radios, and can tell other police to be on the lookout for you. Even if you go right home and hide in the basement, the very next time you go out you are likely to be spotted by police, and they will remember you from before, and then try to arrest you for whatever petty crap you did previously and the brand new count of felony evasion you garnered for escaping.

In the process of your escaping the police, if any other people are harmed, or if their property is damaged, you will be the one charged with the responsibility. If a cop shoots his taser at you, but hits a 90-year-old grandma who then dies, that charge of manslaughter is on you. Cops are rotten marksmen, in general, so I wouldn't risk it.

So now that we have that out of the way:

Black man, driving drunk, falls asleep in the drive-through at Wendy's. The restaurant staff calls the police, who then attempt to arrest the man for driving drunk. (He did not, after all, somehow arrive sober at Wendy's and then suddenly get drunk while waiting in line.)

Imagine this is you. At this point, you're in trouble, but not big trouble. Most likely, since no one was hurt, you're looking at a night in the drunk tank and a court appearance and a fine. The penalties for drunk driving have indeed gotten pretty stiff in recent years (because so many fucking idiots insist on doing it) but you're not looking at jail time or anything really serious.

So if you cooperate with the police, your evening is over and you're going to go to jail, probably overnight, but you're not going to be convicted to a life in prison and it's not going to mean ruination and poverty. Mostly, you are going to be inconvenienced.

But instead of doing that, the "I ain't do nuffin' wrong!" switch gets flipped in your head and you resist arrest, to the point of hitting a cop, grabbing his taser, and trying to use it on him. You get shot, of course.

WHOSE FAULT IS IT THAT YOU'RE DEAD?

The police who are trying to arrest you--because if nothing else your drunk ass behind the wheel is a safety menace!--might have had as much as a second to react to your brandishing the taser before you fired it. Did they have a chance to see that it was a taser and not a pistol? I realize that tasers have bright coloration on them to distinguish them from service weapons, but at night in the middle of a scuffle where an officer has just been slugged?

The "Update" section of that post enumerates the bad choices the perpetrator made during this encounter that led to his untimely demise. After driving drunk (a misdemeanor for which they tried to arrest him) he committed no fewer than five criminal acts in trying to get away from them--all felonies--things which would not help him one iota in his defense and which only made worse the potential penalties that he would have suffered. Five felonies committed, trying to escape a misdemeanor penalty.

...only he pointed a weapon at police and got ventilated. Which is, not to put too fine a point on it, an entirely predictable outcome.

For this, now, there's been a riot and the Wendy's has been burned down. (Again: don't ever fucking bitch about "food deserts" ever again.)

I think Francis Porretto has made an apt observation; the left has indeed managed to establish a new rule:
The right of non-whites to do:
Whatever they please,
To whomever and whatever they please,
And suffer no negative consequences.
Here's the funny thing, though. Let's say that the left manages to accomplish its goal and to crush the United States under the bootheel of socialism. Let's say we go full commie and it's pie-in-the-sky for everyone!

The first time--the very first time--a black man is shot by the Social Council for Public Safety proctors (let's call 'em "social proctors" for short) and there is a big fucking riot over it, the rioters and the looters will be horrified as the SPs come out with pintle-mounted machine guns and hose down the mobs with lead.

Understand? "No justice, no peace" will have served its purpose--the dismantling of "rule of law"--and now will no longer be tolerated because it defies the power of the state. The social proctors will kill as many rioters as necessary to prove the point. Anyone who further gets up and denounces the social proctors as "racist" will be shot, too, because the state and its officers, by definition, cannot be racist. (Oh--all that "institutional racism" stuff you learned in public school? You'd better forget it all, because if you criticize the state as racist you're probably insane and you'll be "helped". Either to shock treatment, a lobotomy, or your grave.)

Unless you think otherwise let this explain:
When the regime changes, the people in charge will be the same ones conducting ideological purges and smashing statuary now. It will be rule by Americans with the aesthetic ethos of the Taliban and the social ethos of Mao's China. We aren't there yet--but we are a long way toward it. Events accelerate, and once everyone is on board--once the nice lady on CNN who worked on Capitol Hill as senior staff gets her wish of stripping you and me of George Washington and the whole Founding--then the network coalesces and they seize the reins.
And you get NKVD or Stasi or whoever Pol Pot had, murdering people for their opinions or even misspeaking when discussing the State.

None of the current horseshit lasts longer than the election, I don't think, particularly if the country suffers a brain anuerysm and elects Biden. The "community organizers" will be told to shut things down for a Democrat, of course; but it would be very bad for the left if this nonsense were to persist into a second Trump term, because "second term immunity" and "gloves off, bitches".

It's why the left is so desperate to prevent a second Trump term: they know that if he gets a second term it will make his first term look like a birthday party, and a lot of their machinations and intrigues will be exposed for all to see. And none of those schemes will make them look good. At best they're looking at mass discreditation of the Democrat party; at worst--well, a whole lot of people going to jail, for one.

Still--November is five months away, and I expect they are going to pull out all the stops.

The problem is, even without the active shit, they'll still be in the wings, scheming and plotting and waiting to get their hands on the reins of power again. If Trump wins in November, none of it disappears, never to be seen again. It stays, in the shadows, festering, estivating, awaiting a time when the sun is hidden and they can come out again. And when they finally come out in force, then we will lose:

Amendment VI

Amendment VII

In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Amendment IX

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
It all goes away then. We'll all become serfs of the all-powerful State. The schadenfreude we right-wingers experience seeing the dismay of the liberals and the moderates and the self-styled "centrists", and the professors and most of the press and the "civil rights leaders" and other useful idiots, as they're off-loaded from boxcars into the same gulags and concentration camps that we're sent to, will be a very small comfort indeed.

Most likely, saying, "We tried to tell you what would happen," would become grounds for summary execution in the camps. The guards would get sick of hearing it.

It doesn't go anywhere else. It doesn't end up being kind, or gentle, or egalitarian, or nice in any way. When leftism takes hold, it ends in brutality, murder, torture, and horror, every time it is tried without exception.

Leftism's only tool is brutality. It's only policy is sugjugation. Its only aim is slavery. Its only end is death.

#7186: Well, on to the rest of it then

I need to cut the grass today. Problem: pusher broke.

...this has been a shit weekend despite the lovely weather. Friday night, that extreme panic attack, the one where I was positive I was dying, like, immediately. I wasn't, but it felt like that. So, Xanax.

Spent Saturday in a depressive haze. Total ennui: didn't want to do anything, couldn't see the point of existence. Dinner made me feel a little better, but not very much. All day was pretty much spent either trying to ignore the world, or trying to cudgel myself into some kind of action, and failing.

(and I can't help the Star Wars reference:

"What kind of junk are you trying to push on us?"

Anyway, around sunset I finally found an iota of energy and went out to the garage to take the drive belt out of the pusher, reasoning that I'd have that much of a head start on today's festivities if I did.

This mower is not built with easy servicing in mind, let me tell you. To get the belt off I needed to remove:

1) belt cover (2 bolts)
2) grass catcher baffle (5 bolts)
3) differential belt guard (more in a second)
4) crankshaft belt buard (two motor mount bolts)
Then I was able to remove the belt from the pulleys. In the process of all this, though, I discovered that the cable which actuates the drive mechanism was broken.

The belt is held on the pulleys, at both ends, with closely-spaced curved pieces of metal. Because the tension of the differential pulley is what determines the speed at which the mower moves, the belt could come off at idle, so the guards keep it on. On the crankshaft pulley, this guard is held in place by two of the motor mount bolts--half of the bolts that secure the engine to the mower deck--and they didn't even make one of the mounting holes slotted. No, you need to take two mount bolts out completely to get this guard off. *sigh*

On the diff end?

Even with a 100 watt LED bulb held mere inches from the differential, I could not see what kind of bolts were used to secure the belt guard at that end, because they were helpfully painted dead black. The bolts used to hold the differential housing together are Torx (zinc-plated), so I tried Torx; no go. Philips--no go.

Someone must've rounded them out. My closest inspection told me "Torx, rounded out". Admittedly I did not get right on them and look. The mower was laying on the garage floor and I was not going to go prone to do that. "Torx" sounded right, since the other bolts on the differential assembly were Torx.

Got the Dremel and cut slots into the top two, used a flat screwdriver to back one out--

Square drive.

*sigh*

I've never encountered square drive bolts on a lawn mower before (or anywhere, in fact) so I didn't even think--

Anyway with the right bit in hand I got the second and third one out easy-peasy. Got the belt off after that. Took the cable off, too, and put all the miscellaneous bits into ziploc bags so nothing would get lost.

Early this afternoon I got up and started trying to find the cable. Turns out there are no places likely to have the part which are also open on a Sunday.

So, though I don't like to, I'll cut the south side of the house with the tractor.

You see, this is what people don't seem to understand, though. I don't even think my wife quite gets it: there are simply some days when I can't.

I have gotten very good at faking it. I don't miss work any longer because of things like this. Over the years I've developed methods for coping with the ups and downs of my cantankerous brain chemistry, some which are better than others. The biggest breakthrough was getting medicated, because that really made a huge difference in everything.

Sometimes, when I really consider it, I wonder if it's not some form of bipolar disorder--but if so, it's very mild. Maybe it's the result of the six years of emotional abuse that is commonly referred to as "middle and high school", and it's untreated PTSD. More likely it's just straight anxiety at various intensities.

(Owing to a line I liked in a TV movie originally called Combat High, I refer to them as "'not safe for fabrics' days". After one of the main characters says, of himself, "This is the new and improved Max Mendelsson, and this one's safe for fabrics!")

So if it's a case of going to work and doing my job, I can fake it. It's difficult and stressful and exhausting, but I can. But if it's a weekend and there's no paycheck involved and I'm not going to get dinged on attendance then why should I suffer?

Anyway, having had a shit day yesterday, I still need to cut the grass and I can't get the part for the pusher, so I'll have to do it all with the tractor and hope I can get the part I need tomorrow.

Let's face it: by definition, a truck carrying merchandise is carrying a valuable commodity. If there are no police there to prevent it, why wouldn't people rob the driver at gunpoint? And who's to say those brigands don't beat the shit out of the driver, maybe even to death, regardless of his level of compliance?

"Cities that tolerate packs of degenerate genetic defectives hijacking their local politics should get to experience the full consequence of their mind-boggling stupidity." ...and don't fucking bitch about "food deserts", you assholes.

"Truck driving is historically ranked as one of the most dangerous jobs in the country." More dangerous, by the way, than being a police officer, did you know that?

If I were a truck driver, I certainly would not willingly go into areas which were, by definition, lawless.

Then again, intellectual coherency is not a feature of leftism.

Total Shot: 972
Total Homicides: 185
And lest you forget, something like 90% of the violent crime in Chicago is committed by some 5% of the population. Guess what the racial mix is.

Police superintendant allegedly runs away.
Brave Sir Robin ran away.

When danger reared it's ugly head,

Chicago leadership had no plan for handling the riots.

Chicago had a near-total leadership vacuum and the mayor utterly bungled the city's response to the riots.
