On the way home from my abortive attempt at procuring food cartridges, I was thinking about how I usually describe such an event: "Of course, they were closed."
Why is it a matter "of course"? I wouldn't have gone out on a cold night like this if it had actually been a matter of course that they would be closed. I went because I expected them to be open.
It is, therefore, an employment of the ironic mode: I say "of course, they were closed" because I expected them to be open.
I could have gone to another McDonald's. The next nearest one would be closed; but the one in Monee would be open. Only I wasn't going to drive a total of 15 miles in order to have a couple of food cartridges. No. Not at 1 AM on a night when the temperature is under 10°F. No.

"Baleeted" is a reference to one of my all-time favorite Strong Bad emails.

ef--A Tale of Memories gradually begins to make sense around episode 2, fortunately.

I notice that box sets of Maison Ikkoku and Ranma 1/2 are getting damn cheap, around $45 each. Cripes. I'm going to need to complete my collections, I guess.
But with the Geneon meltdown that happened not long ago, what's going to happen to Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha? It's been licensed by Geneon, so the fansubs are gone, but how can those of us who came late to the party get our hands on the stuff?
And speaking of that, it's now January 2008, and there's still no sign of Yawara! It was supposed to be out a year ago, already. WTF.
I thought "vaporware" only referred to the computer industry. Guess I was wrong.
