#1378: Yo, dawg.

Taking the occasional gander at I've found myself amused by the meme where someone photoshops a specific picture of a black man over some image and adds text:

"Yo, Dawg! I herd u like [x] so we put a [x] in yo [x] so u can [x] while you [x]."

And so I came up with this:

I don't have mad Photoshop skillz which is why I haven't bothered to make the actual images. Besides, there's not really much of a point to it.

There's been a bit of a slowdown with the Chicory pages lately. Subaru faints and ends up in the hospital (generic anime diagnosis of "anemia"; probably closer to "exhaustion" actually in this case) and it's not easy to draw what I want to draw, so I hesitate.

The next page is a montage of things happening while she's in the hospital for a day or so, for observation, while she thinks about what's going on in her life--and while I know what I want to draw, I can't seem to get motivated to draw it.

Once I'm past that page I expect things to pick up again.

Minor complaint: the new version of Solitaire in Windows Vista doesn't let you resent the "win/lose" statistic. I have been all over the thing trying to figure out how, and so far I haven't managed it.

Yes, I tried looking at "statistics" under the menu, and no, that doesn't work. Not for untimed, draw one, non-scored games.

Speaking of undocumented features, I picked up another FM transmitter for my MP3 player on Sunday afternoon. It was 75% of the price of the one I got at work, and it can tune to any FM channel. It can store up to three stations, and it has a clock and thermometer integrated into it. (Thermometer?) And the display is backlit.

The backlight comes on whenever any button is pressed; but if you press both "station up/down" buttons at the same time, it turns the backlight on at half brightness and it stays on. There's nothing about this in the instructions.

Also, there's no mention of whether or not the thermometer can display the temperature in Fareinheit. Oh well. Trying to see if I could change that is what led me to discover the backlight thing.

I woke up this evening feeling rotten. Thanks to continuing, erm, "output port" troubles, I failed to sleep well today, and I woke up with various aches and pains and the continuing "port" issues. I had gotten as far as being about to step into the shower when I suddenly realized, "No, sheer determination isn't going to be enough tonight."

...and although I wasn't feeling hungry I made mac & cheese--and although it's now been about an hour and a half since I made the stuff, I still haven't managed to eat very much. I just don't have an appetite.

I had leftover chinese food about 7 AM, and a peanut butter sandwich around 3 PM. When I don't have an appetite after a day like that, there is something wrong.

I'm going to go see the doctor about the "port" this week, as it's been getting worse and isn't acting like it's plain old sphincter trouble. *sigh*

While trying to find the original character designs for Subaru, I came across a page in a notebook which contained notes on "The 12 Days of Christmas", and the cryptic notation, "91 gallons of WHISKEY!"

Sunday afternoon I had one of the XM radio "holiday music" channels playing, and while they were playing the song, I started singing, "X fifths of whiskey!" instead of the proper lyrics (eg "seven swans a-swimming" etc). It made me wonder how much whiskey that would actually come to....

Early Monday morning, suddenly I remembered that page, and looked it up--and realized that I had had that thought before. (But "quarts" rather than "fifths".)

If you substiture a quart of whiskey for every single gift "my true love gave to me", it comes to 364 quarts of the stuff--one day shy of a year's supply, if you use a quart per day (you alcoholic). And that's 91 gallons of the stuff.

Further down the page is a breakdown of what the gifts come to:

12 pear trees
40 golden rings
224 birds of various kinds
140 slaves

...I mean, I assume that if you make someone a gift of "eight maids a'milking", they're not going to just go home, are they? That's not much of a gift if it just gets up and leaves.

Though, thinking about it now, it's just kind of assumed that the gift list recurses and concatenates. Maybe each gift is given once, so that if we substitute whiskey for the gifts, "my true love" only ends up sending 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12 quarts of whiskey during the 12 days of Christmas: 78 quarts in total, or 19.5 gallons.

And even if it's the slaves and livestock it still turns out a bit more managable:

23 birds
40 slaves

Though I have to wonder how useful a "lord a-leaping" is. I mean, WTF, these poncy little gits just jump around all day? Screw that. Make them scrub the floors or muck out the stable or something.

And what if the person is evil? "Fool! Why did you send such useless slaves? Take them back and give me an army of ninjas!" Now that would be the gift that keeps on giving.
