#1745: Different take on the runaway Lexus story

Driver was a policeman with specialized training.

I discussed this in this post.

Problem #1: apparently the brakes were smoking and virtually aflame. The driver had applied the brakes and the engine simply overpowered them; this is the first time I have ever heard of this sort of thing happening.

Problem #2, and this is a biggie: the vehicle could not be shifted out of drive while it was moving.

That is a bad, bad, idea, Toyota.

Problem #3: the vehicle had a keyless ignition and could not be shut off.

That is also a bad, bad idea.

So: from here it looks like the crash occurred because the vehicle would not let the driver act to prevent the runaway condition.

So Hollywood liberals are outraged that an alleged rapist has been arrested for raping a 13-year-old girl. They think Roman Polanski should be given a pass for raping a girl.

I am not surprised by this. Eve Ensler thinks pedophilic date-rape is okay when a lesbian does it, if The Vagina Monologues is any guide.

Michelle Malkin on the issue.

Very important bit on racism from Mark Steyn. "If you want to win [elections], look at whom the Democrats and their media chums are so frantic to destroy: That's the better guide to what they're really worried about."

As for me, I'm still massively depressed.
