#2899: Stupid is as stupid does.

Og's got a story about a rich idiot doing something so stupid even rich idiots ought to know better.

* * *

Ace on the Gibson Guitar raid by the feds. You know, "United States v. Ebony Wood in Various Forms", that stupidity.

Turns out that one of Gibson Guitar's chief competitors is run by a guy who's donated some $35,000 to Democrats, and uses many of the same materials, and has not been raided by the federal government.

The feds have not said why they raided Gibson, so we have no idea why they were actually raided.

Only that the Eric Holder Justice Department--the same one which blatantly refused to prosecute the Black Panther voter intimidation case--is behind the raid. You do the math.

"Nashville or Nuremburg?"

Also from Ace: Obama is not exactly conversant with English grammar.

Compare and contrast. I think the "office" of a C-130 is just a little more complicated than TotUS.

Think I'm joking? Two teleprompters for a three-minute speech.

...and liberals made fun of Sarah Palin for writing on her palm. Oh, yeah, only stupid people can make a speech from a few notes written on their hands; the great orators all use teleprompters! *rolleyes*

The usual DOOM! post.

Related: an entire generation of homeowners is stuck in their first home. Oh, no, the horror! They can't trade up! They're stuck living in the first house they bought, and can't sell it and buy a bigger house! This is an infringement on their God-given right to have a big fricking house!

They have two kids and live in a two-bedroom house! They can't possibly have two kids sleep in the same bedroom! How will they cope? They'll sue mommy and daddy after they grow up because of such trauma and hardship!

Hey, guess what, shitpiles: there are people out there who don't own houses and who have much bigger problems than yours.

It looks like the Standard Model in physics is not going down just yet. Okay, look at the sample slide--when your observations match the theory that freakin' closely, it's a pretty good indication that the theory is probably correct.

* * *

As opposed to, I don't know, the "carbon dioxide causes global warming" theory:

See, that's an example of observations failing to match the theory. But in climate science, that means the data is wrong, and must be corrected.

So all those physicists need to do is to "normalize" the data from CERN's "black hole machine" and they'll be able to prove whatever they want.

* * *

So you see those guys at CERN had better get with the program. Making a theory, testing it with observations, and modifying the theory to account for unexpected results--no one does science like that any more. I mean, what if the observations don't support your point? How are you supposed to get all kinds of grant money then?

You guys are spoiling it for everyone by using that outdated "test and theorize" model of science. Everyone knows that you've got to use the new "make shit up" model! Jeeze!

Here's another article about the conference on normalizing pedophilia that happened a while ago.

What else can I say about it that I haven't already said? If our society is all about being egalitarian and accepting of "alternate sexuality" how can we reasonably justify our bias against pedophiles, when it's now socially unacceptable to have any bias against homosexuals? And if pedophilia is not wrong, why the taboo against zoophilia? Or in fact any non-normal philia?

Seems to me that if homosexuality is "just another sexual orientation" and we're supposed to uncritically accept it and love it, how can we justify discriminating against any "alternative sexual orientation"?

Where do you draw the line? We were told we may not draw the line at homosexuality, because it was unfair and that homosexuals are born that way and can't help it. Well, even before all this nonsense we were told that pedophiles are born that way and can't help it; that's why so many people want to lock up pedophiles for good--that's why we now have "sex offender" registries.

...but if pedophiles were born that way and can't help it, why are we discriminating against them? I mean, homosexuals were born that way and can't help it, and now we're supposed to celebrate that.

Eh? "It harms the children?" You can make just as many "public health" arguments against homosexuality--the increased risk of STDs (including HIV), the increased risk of death by various causes, the increase rates of depression, etc--as you can against pedophilia. (And for many of the same reasons to boot.)

What? "Homosexuality doesn't spread disease to children?"

Just one example, the most famous one: Ryan White was 13 when he was diagnosed with AIDS. He wasn't a homosexual; he was a hemophiliac who contracted HIV from tainted blood. Tell me which demographic had the highest rates of AIDS and HIV in 1984, when Ryan White was diagnosed?

Homosexual men.

...yeah, it doesn't hurt kids at all.

So that's about the last thing I'm going to say about the whole B4U-ACT bullshit, unless something major comes to light, because as it is I'm going to be lambasted and derided as "bigot-homophobe-sexist-racist-Jesus-freak" again.

I said that my completion card is probably coming on Wednesday; but I'm really hoping to get it today. It'd be nice if it came and I could go get my license taken care of; then first thing tomorrow I could go get the plates and insurance on the Suzuki, and spend all frickin' day buzzing around town. Heh.

Oh, I am so tired....

Yesterday I got a call from one of the guys in my Bible study group. He was having a bit of trouble with his computer, and wanted some help; so this morning I went over there and helped him out with it. It took maybe 15 minutes; and after that we sat and talked about a bunch of stuff. Guns, hunting, religion, etc. I was there until 12:30.

...all this after getting to bed about 2 AM and not getting to sleep before 3, and then up at 9 so I could scrape off a layer of dirt and be at his place by 10....

I didn't do much computer-wise, and as he's a lawyer he was able to notarize some documents I needed notarized and for which I was going to go to the bank--so he saved me a side trip and I helped him with his computer issue. Win-win.

I had gone there intending not to take any money for the task, unless it turned into some huge all-day project; but a quid pro quo is okay.

...hit the store for groceries and didn't grab an application, because I wasn't dressed well and I'm re-thinking the entire idea.

See, I recalled what it was like to work at Target, working in Receiving all night. It was the job I enjoyed the most in the Overnight Flow environment, but it was still hard physical labor. I'd get home from work feeling ready for embalming, and that was so whether I was working full-time or part-time.

My aim is to get a job that is easier, physically, than my job at Target was...and being the "receiving/warehouse" guy for a fairly busy supermarket is probably not going to be physically easier than the job at Target was.

Do I have a choice?

...go back to May of this year and read the entries for that month and see where the attitude of "You don't have a choice, son!" got me. No thanks; I'm not doing that again.

* * *

Anyway, I think I'm going to go get license and insurance on the motorcycle, in case the card comes today. The DMV closes at 5, so if I can do it... :D

UPDATE No completion card today. Mail came around 4 PM. I've got the insurance and the plate, so assuming the mail comes tomorrow around the same time I ought to be able to do it....

And if not Wednesday, then Thursday. When it's going to be 92°. *sigh*
