Last night was hectic, but it was my own fault.
I don't remember what time I got going yesterday; but it was after 4 before I left to pick up the pies. I went and got the pies, then hit the church for communion. It was a nice service--about 10 mins--and when it was done I went home.
I was playing WoW last night; I had intended to get a couple randoms in and then get after making the apple crisp. Well, I got into a really good group, and ended up playing until 11 PM; we hit a bunch of randoms and Voyla got 40th level.
I finally pried myself off the computer and started in with the apple crisp. The apple crisp went into the oven after 11:40; and while it was baking I cleaned the kitchen!
...took the apple crisp out of the oven around 12:15, and continued to clean; and after that I vacuumed. I took out the trash, and by the time everything was done it was after 1 AM.
I didn't get to bed until 2 AM. *sigh* And of course I didn't get to sleep until 3.

But! I got up and got going, showered and shaved and dressed; and my aunt and uncle came at 10:30 to pick me up. So I didn't have to drive! Yahoo!

The big rewrite project--I'm thinking about how the story's going to go, and some elements of the thing are shaping up into something really, really interesting. I'm liking the ideas that are percolating in the back of my brain, and it's even ended up giving me a good name for the symbol that's a recurring element in the story.
I don't have a copy of it on the laptop so I can't work on it now, but I really do want to get more stuff added. There's a lot more story to tell!
The thing is, I'm thinking about doing something like Aldrin and Barnes' Encounter With Tiber, where the narration shifts from the main characters in "present day" (the "present day" of the novel, anyway, which was near future SF when it was written) to ancient history, translations of books written by the Tiberians.
I could easily do something like that--maybe a bit shorter--and tell the story that I've been building up to. What's awesome is that I'm going to have a ton of fun writing this story because the visuals are just so f-ing cool; from here it doesn't really matter to me what I do because I'm going to enjoy it regardless. But doing the thing like Tiber lets me tell the story more thoroughly, and in a more suspenseful way.

Well, they're about to remove the bird from its sarcophagus, which means we might actually be eating sometime in the next 30 minutes. Guess I'd better log out.
