Our new Secretary of State is John Forbes "I served in Vietnam!" Kerry, who denounced the American efforts in southeast asia in the 1960s and 1970s, and I would wager that the true answer to the question approximates the title of this post.
Like nearly all Democrats since the late 19th century, Kerry never met a dictator he didn't like. That's why it's fine to bomb Libya but wasn't fine to bomb Cambodia: Cambodia was turning communist; but Libya wasn't going to be anything other than a military junta run by old Moammar unless he was ousted. Now it can turn into an islamic junta, which is vastly preferable to American liberals because it gives them hope for their own aspirations of totalitarian rule.

They used to refer to this kind of person as a "pathological liar". Somehow I missed this Intarweb sensation--I must've been busy having a life or something--but here's what someone said about him:
He had a lot of affiliations with élite institutions. He was an action star, an espionage expert, and a professional athlete. He would be on the C.I.A. firing range one day and, the next, at a martial-arts competition that took place in this secret system of tunnels underneath Woodstock, New York. Then he was at a skiing competition in Switzerland. He told us the Russian Mafia had him forging passports. The hell of it is, the lies are usually so over the top that they're obviously lies. I don't care who you are or how smart you are; you are not going to be all those things when you're 18 years old and a freshman in college. No.
It's a shame the guy had to die so young, but WTF.

Big surprise: Feinstein's big gun ban bill exempts government, of course:
Mrs. Feinstein's measure would exempt more than 2,200 types of hunting and sporting rifles; guns manually operated by bolt, pump, lever or slide action; and weapons used by government officials, law enforcement and retired law enforcement personnel."Retired law enforcement personnel" are civilians and should not be included in the "only ones" class, but that's not the biggest problem with this bill. The biggest problem with the bill is that it's an opportunistic gun grab by Democrats.

You talk a good game, congressman, but you're still a Democrat, and we can't trust you because of how Democrats have behaved in the past towards our civil right to keep and bear arms. Especially not when the head of your caucus (see above) is proposing a monstrous gun grab.

This story does not explain what the woman has against having a smart meter installed on her house. Is it a privacy issue? Or what?
No, I'm not going to watch the video.

"Triple-dip"? Why don't people just f-ing acknowledge that we're in a depression that started in 2008? WTF.

Well, today I got the last of the unneeded CRTs out of the bunker. The 35" TV and Mom's 17" computer monitor have gone to the recycler.
Remaining: one 25" TV, a 13" monochrome display for a TRS-80 Model I (yes I have the computer it plugs in to), a 13" Commodore color monitor for my plethora of Commodore computers, and an old TV in the garage. Whee!
I ran some other errands on my way back from doing that, too, and took care of a bunch of phone business. Overall I've had a pretty productive day, I think.
...though I still have to wash the dishes. Well, it'll get done.
